NOV 22, 2009 (Tempe, AZ) Returning to the warm weather for Ironman Arizona, Lauren had her sights set on a new Ironman PR. She had an excellent swim, a relaxed ride on the rolling and windy bike course, and then was clipping off 7:30 miles for the first loop of the run. All the stars seemed to be aligned for a new PR. The long season caught up to her, though, and she had to back off the pace over the last half of the marathon (or in her words, "I bonked"). Still, she managed a sub-10 hour time to finish her 2009 season.

OCT 25, 2009 (Tempe, AZ) Lauren placed third overall in a pre-Ironman effort at the Soma Triathlon.

OCT 1, 2009 (Milwaukee, WI) Local Medals 4 Mettle representative Pam Kassner arranged for Lauren and some other local sports celebrities to hand out medals at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. Please support Pam's efforts to provide medals for children who have shown courage beyond their years by donating your finisher medals or monetary gifts. More information can be found at the Medals 4 Mettle website.

OCT 4, 2009 (Green Bay, WI) With a win at the Green Bay Duathlon, Lauren extended her current win streak to five and solidified her lead in Midwest Events' 5 STAR Series. She reported the conditions were windy, overcast, and cold (40-50F) - otherwise known as a typical Wisconsin fall day.
SEP 27, 2009 (Pleasant Prairie, WI) After more than a month with no triathlons on her schedule (well, there was that duathlon last week), Lauren won the local Danskin Women's Triathlon Series race. The Kenosha News has a nice report [ here].
AUG 16, 2009 (Pleasant Prairie, WI) Another race at the local triathlon mecca of Pleasant Prairie and Lake Andrea. Lauren put in a few surges during the swim to arrive back in shore leading the first women's wave. A strong bike and solid run solidified her lead, and she shared the top podium step with her Team Sport Beans/NTTC teammate Daniel.

AUG 9, 2009 (Oshkosh, WI) With a wedding to attend in Chicago the day before, this race was entered as a last-minute decision and with only about four hours of sleep after getting home around midnight and then waking up at 3:30am to drive to the race. While the sleep deprivation didn't slow her down too much, a slow leak on the front tire definitely did!. This required Laruen to stop and refill her tire once, and then she rode the final few miles on the totally flat tire when she lost her CO2 adaptor. Nevertheless, she perservered and held on to the lead she acquired in the swim all the way to the finish.

JUL 13, 2009 (Pleasant Prairie, WI) The summer win streak continues at the Trek Women's Triathlon Series stop in the Chicagoland area. Almost 3000 women participated, including many of the women Lauren coaches.

JUL 5, 2009 (Decatur, IL) While it seems the Fourth of July is usually for running races, there is a wonderful race being held in central Illinois held in honor of Rodney T Miller, a local law enforcement officer. Lauren had to run hard the last two miles to maintain her lead she gained in the swim to hold off Emily Dewald, a "youngster" who used her collegiate running experience to push Lauren all the way to the finish line. A report from the Herald & Review newspaper can be found [ here].
JUN 13, 2009 (Elkhart Lake, WI) Lauren defended her win at the Elkhart Lake Triathlon and improved on the course record at this slightly longer than Olympic-distance event (1.5k swim/45k bike/10k run).
JUN 7, 2009 (Loves Park, IL) Lauren took the top podium spot for the women at the Rockman Triathlon despite the rain and challenging run course. She built a good lead in the water and maintained it over the bike and run. The local paper summarized her performance as " Veteran rules Rockman Triathlon".
MAY 24, 2009 (Milwaukee, WI) The local FOX station ran a feature about Lauren.
MAY 20, 2009 (Muskego, WI) Join Lauren at the pre-race Tri Faster clinics being held the day before the Rockman and Elkhart Lake triathlons. See the Tri Faster webpage [ trifaster.com] for more details.
MAY 3, 2009 (Neenah, WI) Lauren had a strong day in Neenah at the Paper Discovery Duathlon taking the lead early on the bike and taking home the win. A highlight of the day was racing alongside five of the athletes she coaches.
APR 26, 2009 (Whitewater, WI) Why travel to Florida in April when there is a triathlon in Wisconsin? Lauren won the J-Hawk Early Bird Triathlon, which was held at the UW-Whitewater campus in between flash flood-causing rain storms. Since the local lakes are still a bit chilly, the swim is held in a heated indoor pool, followed by a bike on the county roads, and a cross-country run on trails.

APR 5, 2009 (New Orleans, LA) At the super-stacked inaugral edition of the Ironman 70.3 New Orleans, Lauren reports she had a decent swim but then a bad T1. One of her shoes was lost in transition as it was inadvertantly knocked off by another pro women leaving transition. Lauren did not realize this until she went to mount her bike sans shoe. After retrieving it, she felt decent on the bike, but the winter in Wisconsin does not prepare one for 75-80F and high humidity. So, she backed it down on the run and made it a good training race.
MAR 8, 2009 (Wheaton, IL) Just 0.004 miles separated the first and second place females in the last stop of the Midwest Indoor Tri-Classic Series for 2009. Lauren was "out-leaned" and ended up second. Now she is off to California for the annual Team Sport Beans/NTTC camp.
FEB 15, 2009 (Clermont, FL) After shaking off the winter cobwebs at one of the stops of the annual Midwest Indoor Tri-Classic Series held in the warm and temperate climate of Edward Health and Fitness Center in Woodridge, IL, Lauren traveled to sunny Florida for a sprint triathlon in Clermont against some good competition like 70.3 champion Joanna Zieger. After only a handful of outdoor rides during the winter, Lauren was happy with a 3rd place and a change to blow out some more carbon from the engine.
