AUG 17, 2008 (Pleasant Prairie, WI) Another local race and Lauren's ffinal race effort before Ironman Wisconsin. The long training block prior to the race caught up to her and she felt sluggish, but nevertheless kept a decent pace to finish on top of the women's podium again.
AUG 11, 2008 (Hartland, WI) At this local race, the male and female elites started together in the first wave. Lauren sprinted around Terry Labinski to enter T1 first and kept her lead on the men for the first half-mile of the bike. She felt strong on the hills and ended up sixth overall including the men and first overall woman.
JUL 20, 2008 (Racine, WI) The win streak ends. After a delay due to fog of 15 minutes, then another 15, then another ... the race finally started with the pro men at 8AM followed by the pro women at 8:03AM. Lauren escaped T1 in 3rd, only 37 secs behind 1st so she was right where she wanted to be with the front of the race in sight. At T2 she was in the lead, but a slow leak in her rear tire allowed the others to cut their losses a lot over the last ten miles of the bike. On the run Lauren succumbed to the mild stomach virus she had all week and shifted to an Ironman shuffle to finish fourth.
JUL 13, 2008 (Pleasant Prairie, WI) Unlike past years at the Danskin-Chicagoland Triathlon, the extreme heat stayed away but a 20-30 mph westerly wind took its place! Lauren extended her current winning streak to four. Congratulations to all the women who attended one of her DWTS skills clinics to prepare for this race.
JUN 28, 2008 (Elkhart Lake, WI) Some schedule changes allowed Lauren to take part in one of her favorite races in a great training location, the Elkhart Lake Triathlon. She led the elite women out of the swim and T1 and maintained the lead over the rolling and windy 45k bike course and 10k run for her second win in the same week. A local newspaper article about the race can be found here.
JUN 22, 2008 (Naperville, IL) Four local professional women were just a small part of the US Women's Triathlon Series stop in Naperville. After an hour delay due to thunderstorms, Lauren was able to escape T1 in the lead and held the lead to win by over two minutes.

MAY 18, 2008 (Memphis, TN) Another stellar sub-hour 40k (58:44, 25.0 mph) and the fastest bike split helped Masters-aged Lauren place 4th overall in a field of "youngsters" at Memphis in May.
APR 27, 2008 (St Petersburg, FL) The first big race of the year is now history. Lauren felt good about her swim, had an excellent bike especially considering the almost record amount of snowfall (and salt) there was on the roads at home in Wisconsin, and a works-in-progress run. Memphis in May is next.

The races are scored by total distance swam, biked, and run in the alloted time. The overall series was won by Brianna by less than 2/10ths of a mile over Lauren. Time to head outside!
